Product Overview: Texas Instruments BQ25570RGRT
The Texas Instruments BQ25570RGRT is a sophisticated energy harvesting Nano-Power charge management device that is designed to operate with the smallest power generation sources, including those limited to micro-watts of power. This high-efficiency, low quiescent current (IQ) device is ideal for energy harvesting or for applications powered by primary batteries.
With its wide input voltage range, the BQ25570RGRT is capable of efficiently managing energy from a variety of sources such as solar cells, thermoelectric generators, and vibration or motion harvesters. Its main function is to extract and manage the microwatts (μW) to milliwatts (mW) of power generated from these sources and to convert and store this energy in storage elements like rechargeable batteries or capacitors.
The device features Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), which is critical for optimizing the energy extraction from various harvesting sources. The MPPT is programmable through an external resistor, allowing the user to set the desired voltage level at which the harvester is most efficient, ensuring the maximum energy transfer.
Additionally, the BQ25570RGRT includes a highly efficient boost converter/charger with an integrated low-loss full-bridge rectifier that can achieve up to 90% efficiency. This ensures that the harvested energy is maximized in the charging process. The boost converter can start up with an input voltage as low as 330 mV and, once started, can continue to harvest energy down to input voltages as low as 100 mV.
For applications where the primary power source may not always be available, the BQ25570RGRT also includes a low-power buck converter that can be enabled to regulate the output from a storage element to supply consistent power. This feature is particularly useful in extending the life of the primary battery, as it allows the device to operate from the harvested energy before tapping into the battery reserves.
The device is available in a small 3.5 mm × 3.5 mm QFN package, making it suitable for space-constrained applications. With its advanced power management capabilities, the BQ25570RGRT is an excellent choice for a wide range of energy harvesting and low-power applications.
