The DS28E25Q+T from Maxim Integrated is a highly secure cryptographic coprocessor that provides a robust defense against unauthorized usage and cloning for embedded systems. It is a part of the DeepCover® embedded security solutions that Maxim Integrated offers to ensure advanced physical and logical protection to electronic devices. This secure authenticator integrates an array of features designed to safeguard the integrity and security of digital data.

At the heart of the DS28E25Q+T is a secure SHA-256 cryptographic engine partnered with a 2Kb user-programmable EEPROM. This combination allows for the storage and verification of sensitive data, such as cryptographic keys, which are essential for implementing secure challenge-and-response authentication protocols. The device's built-in 64-bit ROM ID serves as a unique serial number, which can be used to generate a distinct signature for each unit, making it virtually impossible to replicate or reverse-engineer.

One of the key benefits of the DS28E25Q+T is its ChipDNA™ physical unclonable function (PUF) technology. This advanced feature harnesses the inherent randomness in semiconductor device characteristics to produce cryptographic keys that are immune to invasive attacks. Since the keys are not stored in memory but generated on-demand, they are highly secure and leave no footprint that could be exploited by attackers.

Additionally, the DS28E25Q+T supports bidirectional authentication between a host and its attached devices. The device's communication is facilitated through the 1-Wire® interface, which simplifies the connection to a host microcontroller with minimal pin count, using only a single data line plus ground for operation.

It operates over a wide temperature range and is available in a compact, 6-pin TSOC package.
