The M74HC221B1R from STMicroelectronics is a high-speed CMOS dual monostable multivibrator fabricated with silicon gate C2MOS technology. This integrated circuit is designed to operate from a wide range of supply voltages, from 2V to 6V, making it suitable for battery-operated devices as well as for standard 5V logic systems.

Each multivibrator of the M74HC221B1R has an active LOW trigger/retrigger input (nA) and an active HIGH trigger/retrigger input (nB), which allows for versatile triggering options. When triggered, the device produces a precision, programmable time delay which can be adjusted by connecting an external resistor (Rext) and capacitor (Cext) to the timing pin (nRC).

The output pulse width is determined by the time constant provided by Rext and Cext, offering a wide range of timing intervals that can be easily customized to suit various applications.
