Microchip Technology ATMEGA64A-ANR Microcontroller

The ATMEGA64A-ANR is a high-performance, low-power Atmel 8-bit AVR RISC-based microcontroller from Microchip Technology. This versatile microcontroller combines 64KB ISP flash memory with read-while-write capabilities, 2KB EEPROM, 4KB SRAM, 53 general purpose I/O lines, 32 general purpose working registers, real-time counter, four flexible timer/counters with compare modes, two USARTs, a byte-oriented 2-wire serial interface, a 16-channel 10-bit A/D converter, and a JTAG interface for on-chip debugging. The device operates between 4.5-5.5 volts.

Designed for effective power management, the ATMEGA64A-ANR supports six power-saving modes, enabling the design of low-power applications. The Idle mode stops the CPU while allowing the SRAM, Timer/Counters, SPI port, and interrupt system to continue functioning. Other modes like ADC Noise Reduction, Power-save, Power-down, and Standby offer varying degrees of power conservation, ensuring that the microcontroller can be optimized for different power usage requirements.

The microcontroller's advanced RISC architecture enables most instructions to be executed in a single clock cycle, allowing the ATMEGA64A-ANR to achieve throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz. This balances power consumption and processing speed in a way that makes the microcontroller suitable for many types of embedded applications.

Programming the ATMEGA64A-ANR is facilitated through its ISP (In-System Programming) feature, which allows for programming and reprogramming of the microcontroller without removing it from the end product.
