Maxim Integrated MAX793SESE Overview

The MAX793SESE from Maxim Integrated is a sophisticated, high-performance microprocessor (µP) supervisory circuit, designed to monitor power supplies in µP and digital systems. It provides excellent circuit reliability and low cost by eliminating external components and adjustments when used in conjunction with +5V-powered circuits.

This device offers a variety of features that ensure system integrity during power-up, operation, and power-down. The MAX793SESE provides four key functions: a reset output during power-up, power-down, and brownout conditions; a 1.25V threshold detector for power-fail warning, low-battery detection, or to monitor a power supply other than +5V; a watchdog timer to ensure the µP is operating properly; and an active-high manual-reset input.

  • Power Supply Monitoring: Precise monitoring of +5V power supplies is ensured with the MAX793SESE. It generates a reset signal whenever the VCC supply voltage declines below a preset threshold, maintaining it until VCC has returned to an acceptable level for a specified period.
  • Watchdog Timer: The integrated watchdog timer improves system reliability by initiating a system reset if the µP fails to strobe within a preset timeout period.
  • Manual Reset: A manual reset feature allows for an external pushbutton to be connected, providing a hardware reset input for immediate system reboot.
  • Power-Fail Warning: The device also includes a power-fail comparator that warns the processor of impending power failure, allowing it to execute shutdown routines.
  • Versatility: The MAX793SESE is versatile in application, suitable for battery-powered equipment, computers, controllers, intelligent instruments, critical µP power monitoring, and portable/battery-powered equipment.

The MAX793SESE comes in a 16-pin narrow SO package, making it compact and suitable for space-constrained applications. Its temperature range of 0°C to +70°C allows for operation in most commercial environments. With its combination of features, the MAX793SESE provides a comprehensive solution for µP system monitoring, ensuring stable operation and protection against power-related anomalies.
