Maxim Integrated DS1672-3+ Low-Voltage Serial Timekeeping Chip

The Maxim Integrated DS1672-3+ is a highly integrated timekeeping solution designed to provide precise time and date information to electronic systems. This compact, low-voltage serial real-time clock (RTC) utilizes a digital serial interface for communication and is ideally suited for applications in embedded systems, consumer electronics, and network infrastructure that require accurate timekeeping with minimal power consumption.

Featuring a built-in quartz crystal that ensures high stability and accuracy, the DS1672-3+ maintains time and date information in a binary format, providing seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year data. The device is capable of automatically adjusting for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year, up to the year 2100.

The DS1672-3+ operates over a voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V, making it versatile for use in both 3.3V and 5V systems. Its low power consumption is particularly advantageous for battery-powered devices, as it extends the battery life by drawing minimal current in timekeeping mode. The timekeeping function continues to operate even when the main power is turned off, as long as the device is connected to a backup power source, such as a coin-cell battery.

Communication with the DS1672-3+ is achieved through a simple serial interface that is compatible with most microcontrollers. This interface supports both I²C and SPI protocols, providing flexibility in system design and ensuring easy integration into a wide range of applications.
