The 74VCX16373DTR from ON Semiconductor is a high-performance, low-voltage 16-bit transparent latch with 5V tolerant inputs and outputs. It is designed for use in systems that interface with both 3.3V and 5V supply levels. This component is particularly suitable for implementing buffer registers, I/O ports, bidirectional bus drivers, and working memory in a wide range of digital applications.

This device is part of the VCX range, which stands for Voltage eXtended CMOS technology. The 74VCX16373DTR is fabricated with an advanced CMOS technology to achieve high-speed operation while maintaining low power dissipation. This makes it ideal for low-power and high-speed 3.3V applications in computing, telecommunications, and industrial markets.

The latch features 16 D-type transparent latches with 3-state outputs. The transparent nature of the latches means that when the latch enable (LE) input is high, the Q outputs follow the data (D) inputs. When LE is taken low, the Q outputs are latched at the levels that were set up at the D inputs. A buffered output enable (OE) input can be used to place the eight outputs in either a normal logic state (high or low logic levels) or a high-impedance state. In the high-impedance state, the outputs neither load nor drive the bus lines significantly. The high-impedance state and increased drive provide the capability to drive bus lines without the need for interface or pull-up components.

The 74VCX16373DTR is offered in a TSSOP package, which is optimized for reduced space on PCBs. It is fully specified for partial-power-down applications using IOFF. The IOFF circuitry disables the outputs, preventing damaging current backflow through the device when it is powered down.

With its wide operating voltage range and edge-rate control inputs that significantly reduce the noise generation, the 74VCX16373DTR is a versatile and reliable choice for high-speed digital interfacing needs.
