Functional Description:
The 74HCT165N has an 8-bit shift register that feeds an 8-bit D-type storage register. Inputs include a Master Reset (MR) pin, which clears the register, setting all outputs low. The Shift/Load (SH/LD) input controls the loading of data into the shift register. When SH/LD is low, parallel data from the eight inputs (A-H) is loaded into the register. When SH/LD is high, the data is shifted on the positive-going transitions of the clock pulse (CP).
The device also features a serial input (Ds) for cascading multiple devices. When multiple 74HCT165N devices are cascaded, the serial output (Q7') from one device can be connected to the serial input of the next device, enabling the creation of shift registers of virtually any length.
