Maxim Integrated DS1486-120 Watchdog Timekeeper RAM
The DS1486-120 is a versatile, full-function, timekeeping RAM module designed by Maxim Integrated to provide a comprehensive solution for system timekeeping and memory requirements. This integrated device combines a watchdog timer, a non-volatile time-of-day clock/calendar, an interval timer, and a 128k x 8 non-volatile static RAM.
The time-of-day clock/calendar of the DS1486-120 functions with incredible accuracy and maintains year, month, date, day, hours, minutes, and seconds information. The clock is able to automatically adjust for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year. The clock operates in either 24-hour or 12-hour format with an AM/PM indicator.
Featuring an embedded lithium energy source and a quartz crystal, the DS1486-120 ensures a long-term, reliable timekeeping and memory storage solution. The energy source allows the device to maintain time and date information for more than 10 years in the absence of external power.
The watchdog timer provides a reliable system reset with a programmable delay from 62.5 ms to 64 s. This function is crucial for systems that require self-recovery in the event of a software lock-up. The interval timer can be set from 244 microseconds to 8 hours, providing additional system management capabilities.
With its non-volatile RAM, the DS1486-120 offers 128k bytes of storage, ensuring data integrity without battery dependency through the use of an integrated lithium energy source. This memory is ideal for systems that require the retention of critical data or programs, even during power loss scenarios.
The DS1486-120 is packaged in a 32-pin EDIP or a 34-pin PowerCapModule, and it is fully compatible with the industry-standard DS1286. It operates over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for various applications, including telecommunications, embedded systems, industrial controllers, and other time-sensitive applications.
Overall, the Maxim Integrated DS1486-120 is a robust, multifunctional component that provides reliable timekeeping, system monitoring, and data storage capabilities for sophisticated electronic systems.
