The SIOV-Q20K175 varistor utilizes a zinc oxide (ZnO) ceramic material, which exhibits a non-linear resistance characteristic. Under normal operating conditions, the varistor presents a high resistance, allowing current to flow through the circuit. However, when a transient overvoltage occurs, the varistor's resistance rapidly decreases, diverting the surge current away from the protected components. Once the overvoltage subsides, the varistor returns to its high-resistance state.
