The CD74HCT166E is a high-speed 8-bit shift register designed and manufactured by Texas Instruments. This integrated circuit is part of the HCT (High-Speed CMOS Logic) family, which ensures compatibility with all industry-standard logic families through its TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) input switching levels.
Key Features
- Logic Type: 8-Bit Shift Register
- Operating Voltage: 4.5V to 5.5V
- High-Speed Performance: Typical shift frequency of 50MHz
- Low Power Consumption: 20µA max ICC
- Output Drive Capability: 15 LSTTL loads
- Temperature Range: -55°C to 125°C
Functional Description
The CD74HCT166E device features an 8-bit serial or parallel-in/serial-out shift register with a storage register and 3-state outputs. The shift register and storage register have separate clocks. Data is shifted on the positive-going transitions of the SH_CP (Shift Register Clock Input) and the data in the storage register is transferred to the output buffer on a positive-going transition of the ST_CP (Storage Register Clock Input).
Both the shift register clock (SH_CP) and storage register clock (ST_CP) are positive-edge triggered. If both clocks are connected together, the shift register is always one clock pulse ahead of the storage register.
Applications
The CD74HCT166E is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:
- Serial-to-parallel data conversion
- Remote control holding registers
- Data routing
- Counters and dividers
- Specialized communication protocols
