Product Description
The SN74LS138MEL is optimized for use in high-performance memory-decoding or data-routing applications requiring very short propagation delay times. With three binary select inputs (A, B, and C) and eight mutually exclusive outputs (Y0 to Y7), the device provides a highly efficient solution for hardware design. When the enable inputs (G1, G2A, and G2B) are active low, the corresponding binary number appearing on the select inputs will cause a low level at the output.
This demultiplexer features inverting outputs and can be used as an 8-output demultiplexer by using one of the active-low enable inputs as the data input. The other enable inputs must be at their active low levels. Alternatively, it can decode a three-bit address to select one of eight active-low chip select lines for memory and port-mapped I/O.
With its standard output type, the SN74LS138MEL is capable of driving 10 LS-TTL loads. The IC's typical power dissipation is low, and it is specified for operation over a wide range of ambient temperatures, making it suitable for various industrial and commercial applications.
Encased in a compact SOIC-16 package, the SN74LS138MEL is designed for surface-mount technology (SMT), allowing for efficient use of PCB space and simplified assembly processes.
