The TC74HC164AF is a high-speed CMOS 8-bit serial-in/parallel-out shift register fabricated with silicon gate CMOS technology. It achieves high-speed operation similar to equivalent bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining the CMOS low power dissipation. This device features serial data entry and an output from each of the eight stages. Data is shifted on the positive-going clock transitions. A clear (CLR) input overrides all other inputs and clears the register when low.
Applications
- Serial-to-parallel data conversion
- Remote control systems
- Display drivers
- Data communication
- Control registers
Features
- High-speed operation: fmax = 45 MHz (typ.) at VCC = 5V

Additional Details
The TC74HC164AF accepts serial data through one of two inputs (DSA or DSB). Either input can be used as an active HIGH enable input for data entry when the other input is held HIGH. Inputting low on the CLR pin will reset the entire register. Data is shifted into the register on the rising edge of the clock signal. All stages are master-slave flip-flops.
The TC74HC164AF is available in a SOP14 (Small Outline Package) and operates over a wide temperature range, typically -40°C to +85°C.
