Description

The MAX690CPA+ from Maxim Integrated is a highly reliable microprocessor (µP) supervisory circuit designed to maintain system integrity during power failures or unexpected events. This essential component monitors power supplies in µP and digital systems, providing a crucial safety net for applications requiring consistent operation and data protection.

This supervisory circuit ensures that the µP is reset to a known state during power-up, power-down, or brown-out conditions. The MAX690CPA+ generates a reset signal for a pre-defined duration of 200ms after VCC has reached the reset threshold level. This feature guarantees that the µP starts up cleanly every time.

With a wide supply voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V, the MAX690CPA+ is versatile for use in a variety of systems. Its low supply current of 40µA (typical) makes it an energy-efficient choice for battery-operated devices. The device also includes a debounced manual reset input, allowing for a manual reset capability, which is particularly useful during system development and debugging.

Furthermore, the MAX690CPA+ includes a watchdog timer that periodically checks if the µP is operating correctly. If the µP fails to strobe the watchdog within a preset time frame, the MAX690CPA+ will issue a system reset, thereby preventing system hang-ups and maintaining reliable operation.

The device is packaged in an 8-pin DIP (Dual In-line Package) making it easy to integrate into a wide range of printed circuit board designs. Its operating temperature range of 0°C to +70°C ensures performance in most standard environments.
