The MAX1232EWE+ from Maxim Integrated is a sophisticated microprocessor (µP) supervisory circuit designed to monitor power supplies and µP activity in digital systems. Additionally, the MAX1232EWE+ incorporates a watchdog timer that must be periodically cleared by the correct operation of the µP. If the µP fails to clear the watchdog timer within 1.6 seconds, the device assumes that the µP is not functioning correctly and issues a reset signal to restart the system.
The MAX1232EWE+ also features a manual reset input that allows for an external pushbutton or logic signal to initiate a system reset. This provides a convenient way for users to manually reset the system without cycling the power. The device is housed in a 16-pin wide SO package, which is easy to integrate into a variety of digital systems.
